Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. America is worth fighting for. Nothing is inevitable here. We never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history. --John McCain

A Message from Americans for Prosperity

Here's what Tim Phillips at Americans for Prosperity had to say about last night's speech:

Last night, I watched with disappointment and dismay as President Obama -- with Speaker Pelosi applauding loudly behind him -- rolled out literally hundreds-of-billions more in spending and tax increases.

It was like watching one of those horror movies where the bad guy keeps coming back...with even more scary big government programs that have failed the American people time after time. If you're keeping score at home here are the biggest boondoggles with the price tags attached:

"Continuing Resolution" legislation to fund existing federal programs at $410 billion -- an 8.7% increase in spending over the last year which is the biggest increase on domestic spending since the Carter Administration. Currently being debated this week and next.
Obama/Pelosi Housing Bailout at $275 billion. Proposed now and will be debated within days.
Bank Bailout at estimated $1 trillion. Details of this new Bank Bailout are still fuzzy but the numbers are huge. Debate to begin within weeks.
Nationalized Health Care proposal is to be announced this Thursday. The President is saying his "health care reform…will not wait another year." We know what that means. Hundreds of billions more of your money and less individual health care choice for you.
So far, the Obama/Pelosi agenda has been all spending while taking our nation to historic debt levels. Last night, we saw the first big Obama/Pelosi tax increase. And it is genuinely massive -- try $1.2 trillion over the next decade on ENERGY, the one sector of the economy where prices are lower at the moment.

President Obama and Speaker Pelosi are now championing a "Cap and Trade" scheme that will ration energy while increasing taxes. A version of this proposal was introduced last year as the Warner/Lieberman Cap and Trade bill. Here are the key details from last year's legislation that are the basis for the Obama/Pelosi plan:

$1.2 TRILLION Tax Increase over 7 years on gasoline, home energy and really all energy in next decade. Source: Congressional Budget Office, April 10, 2008
this tax would cost the economy 3 to 4 million jobs according to an analysis by the American Council on Capital Formation
the average family would lose over $4,000 per year in purchasing power (and remember the Pelosi/Obama tax cut was only $800 per couple)
Gasoline prices would increase anywhere from 77 to 145 percent--that means prices of about $2 a gallon now would go up to $3.50 or even $5 a gallon.
In addition, the Washington Post has reported that President Obama's budget will also include income tax increases. More on that once we have the details tomorrow.

The numbers are staggering. But there is more. Under the Obama/Pelosi "Cap and Trade" scheme, for the first time the federal government will literally ration energy -- deciding how much energy should be available and at what cost to families and businesses. The impact on our families and economy will be disastrous.

At Americans for Prosperity we're going to fight this new spending and especially these new taxes with everything we've got.

Together, we are building the grassroots movement that will protect our economic freedoms and the American Dream from those who truly believe government has all the answers...we know better!

Stay tuned for more details and action items.

Tim

P.S.: As Americans for Prosperity is holding grassroots events in your state we will be letting you know about them. For example, last week in North Carolina I met a number of NoStimulus.com petition signers who attended our rallies in Greensboro and Raleigh. On March 7 in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area I hope to see a number of you for our event there. On March 9 we're holding a breakfast in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in mid March rallies across Virginia. Please look for invites to rallies and events in your area as we expand our effort to protect our families and the American Dream.

Actions Speak Louder Than Names

I know the FBA/CIA have always referred to America's most wanted terrorist as "Usama bin Laden", but the media for whatever reason, has made the name "Osama bin Laden" infamous with the public. Has anyone else noticed that lately all media reports are now calling him "Usama bin Laden"? The first thing that springs to mind is that the President and/or the media are thinking that Osama is just one letter difference from Obama and they don't want the comparison. I also noticed that during the inauguration ceremony that all the former Presidents were announced by their full names (William Jefferson Clinton, George Herbert Walker Bush, etc.) but when it came time for Obama to make his grand, trumpeted entrance they said "Barack H. Obama". Why can't they say his middle name? Surely the President must have requested that they use only the initial instead of saying "Hussein". This is just ludicrous. How simple minded do they think we all are? If I were the Obama administration I would be more concerned about Obama's actions being compared to socialist leaders than his name being compared to terrorist leaders.

The 'Spendulus' Bill

The reason the dems are so worried about the 'Spendulus' Bill (did Laura Ingrahm come up with that name? I'm not a big Laura Ingrahm fan, but I like it) is because they know it is going to be a huge failure and they don't want to be saddled with the credit for it. But, alas, it looks as if they were able to rope in the required amount of bipartisan support and will push some form of the bill through on Tuesday. What a mess. Meanwhile, Joe Biden is already acknowledging, in his usual cryptic fashion how there is a very good chance that this will be a huge debacle that may cripple them in their bid for re-election.

Transparency?

I have to say, ABC's Jake Tapper is pretty awesome in this clip. Is this transparency? Obama should review the promises he made in the first clip (above), because I think it is reasonable to disclose to the American people the waivers that his cabinet members had to get. I think we'd all like to know who didn't pay their taxes, etc. etc. Not that I agree with total government transparency as Obama outlines in the clip above, I think some things, especially military movements and tactics are already too often communicated to the public when they ought not be. Then the public gets embroiled in things they really don't understand anything about. But that is a whole other blog post for another day. We should have transparency when it comes to Obama's chosen cabinet members and advisors.

Get Involved!

Barack Obama may have won the Presidency and the liberals may now control the White House, the Senate, and the Congress, but that doesn't mean that we should give up the fight! This election was won by a superior grassroots movement and by technology! As a young person, it was frustrating during the campaign to sit by and watch the ignorance of the McCain camp when it came to using technology to their advantage! Obama had this area covered. We need to work on raising awareness, not only in our communities, but online! Don't underestimate the power of the World Wide Web!

Here are a couple sites where Republicans can get involved in the conservative movement. We've got a long fight ahead of us and we all need to stick together.

I know a lot of military families feel a bit lost right now. We honestly don't know what the future holds for us. We don't know what will happen to our funding, we don't know where they will send our husbands. Military Wives 4 Freedom will continue to try and bring attention to matters that are important to military members and dependants through our blog and website as often as we can. Our best defense now is to be educated on the issues and stand up for what we believe in! For those of us who are military wives or spouses, our role has never been more important! Our husbands hands are tied and their mouths are taped. They cannot complain about their Commander in Chief or his decisions. Let us pray that he makes good ones. But if he doesn't, spouses, veterans, we need to be ready to speak up about it!

If you have any news or information about important issues regarding our troops or policies that affect military families, please email militarywives4freedom@gmail.com!

Military Wives 4 McCain: The ONLY Candidate We Trust To Be Our Husbands' Commander in Chief

Recently I received an email from a military spouse explaining why John McCain is the only candidate that she can trust with her husband's life and asking why we aren't seeing or hearing more military and military spouses in the media getting a chance to make their voices heard. She said, "Now, my question is, I know that I'm not the only spouse who feels this way, why havn't any commercials been run which gives us our voice on this subject? I'm not voting for policies which may change again in another 4-8 years, I'm voting for a much more serious cause,
my husband's life."

First of all, I do wish the McCain campaign had made this more of a public issue. Because I really think that the average voter needs to see the tremendous military support that McCain does have and hear the voices of military spouses and families. Another reason we don't see this a lot in the mainstream media, of course, is because the media doesn't want to hear military wives professing their belief that John McCain is the only man to lead their husbands. I know one wife who was with me at the McCain rally who talked to several news crews. She kept reiterating this point and explaining why he was the only person to lead her husband and the news crews kept throwing liberal talking points in her face. When they realized they were getting nowhere and she wasn't going to say something that made her seem like an uneducated idiot, they left. They didn't put anything she said on the news. They put things like McCain protesters outside the rally on the news. Much more interesting I guess that an impassioned military wife supporting John McCain. If military wives want their voices to be heard we are going to have to do it ourselves, because very few people in the media are going to help us. Now, that said, there was one local news channel at that rally who showed our point of view and was very supportive. Also, Fox News has been better about showing military support and support for John McCain in general.

As far as the McCain campaign focusing on support for military families, I don't know why they haven't been doing more to address this publicly. One of the biggest weaknesses Obama has that McCain should be exposing is his lack of foreign policy knowledge and experience and the fact that he is just not the person who should be Commander in Chief of our military forces. I wish that they had brought issues important to military families more to the forefront in this campaign. Not just for our benefit, but because the civilian public looks to the military for guidance in these areas. A Gallup poll showed that Americans trust our military more than they trust politicians. When I went to the McCain Rally with other military wives, our goal was to get our "Military Wives 4 McCain" signs seen and noticed and to get the message out that John McCain is the only candidate that we can trust to be our husbands' Commander in Chief. Unfortunately there are rumors running rampant that McCain doesn't have military support and that military families want Obama because he will pull us out of Iraq and bring our husbands home. Well most of us directly involved realize how naive a policy like that is and also respect the sacrifice of our service members and family members and don't think that all their hard work should just be abandoned. Fortunately I think the girls and I were able to get that message out at the rally and McCain was able to mention us several times in the media. During the debate, a post debate interview, and on Letterman he mentioned a group of young women holding signs that said "Military Wives 4 McCain". If nothing else I believe that at least drove home the fact that the military and specifically military spouses support John McCain and trust him to lead their husbands. It was a small thing, just a few moments of exposure in the media, but I hope it caught the attention of some. I talked to some campaign people at the rally and I told them, I don't know why you're not targeting military families more. Obama has a whole wing of his campaign dedicated to military families and it is giving the impression that military families support Obama, when most of us are terrified of that prospect! It seemed like a lot of campaign people couldn't understand why anyone in the military wouldn't vote for John McCain. I said, don't think you have the military vote wrapped up yet. This is a crazy election and if for nothing else regular voters need to SEE the military support he does have. We went around at that rally collecting testimonies from military spouses, brothers, mothers, and daughters about why they support McCain. Our video on Youtube won't be seen by many. I only wish the McCain campaign would have done a similar video.

It is down to the wire now. Tomorrow voters will pick a new President. I just hope for the sake of our families, our husbands, our military, our country, and the world, that the man they choose to lead this country is John McCain.

At the rally I attended he talked about inspiring a generation of Americans to serve a cause greater than themselves, and I truly believe he will. He is an incredible man, dedicated to our country, who understands what our military needs intimately, and who understands how to lead.

Here is an excerpt from the speech I heard him give at the rally, that I think is very inspiring:

What America needs in this hour is a fighter; someone who puts all his cards on the table and trusts the judgment of the American people. I come from a long line of McCains who believed that to love America is to fight for her. I have fought for you most of my life. There are other ways to love this country, but I've never been the kind to do it from the sidelines.

I know you're worried. America is a great country, but we are at a moment of national crisis that will determine our future. Will we continue to lead the world's economies or will we be overtaken? Will the world become safer or more dangerous? Will our military remain the strongest in the world? Will our children and grandchildren's future be brighter than ours?

My answer to you is yes. Yes, we will lead. Yes, we will prosper. Yes, we will be safer. Yes, we will pass on to our children a stronger, better country. But we must be prepared to act swiftly, boldly, with courage and wisdom.

I know what fear feels like. It's a thief in the night who robs your strength.

I know what hopelessness feels like. It's an enemy who defeats your will.

I felt those things once before. I will never let them in again. I'm an American. And I choose to fight.

Don't give up hope. Be strong. Have courage. And fight.
Fight for a new direction for our country.
Fight for what's right for America.
Fight to clean up the mess of corruption, infighting and selfishness in Washington.
Fight to get our economy out of the ditch and back in the lead.
Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.
Fight for our children's future.
Fight for justice and opportunity for all.
Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. America is worth fighting for. Nothing is inevitable here. We never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.

Now, let's go win this election and get this country moving again.

No matter what happens tomorrow we need to stand strong as military wives and families. We need to be educated about the issues and fight for what is best for our families! There is something special about being a military spouse. Our husbands and wives who are active duty can't publicly share their political views or choice for Commander in Chief, but WE can! We have to be that voice!

RE: The Final Push

The State of the Campaign

If your television is tuned to cable news as frequently as ours are here at campaign headquarters, you have seen the pundits say John McCain and his campaign are done. And, if you've followed this race since the beginning, this is clearly a song you've heard before. I wanted to take some time today to give you some insight on the state of the race as we see it.

An AP poll released this morning revealed a very telling fact: ONE out of every SEVEN voters is undecided. That means, if 130 million voters turn out on Tuesday, 18.5 million of them have yet to make up their mind. With that many votes on the table and the tremendous movement we've seen in this race, I believe we are in a very competitive campaign.

Here's why:

All the major polls have shown a tightening in the race and a significant narrowing of the numbers. In John McCain's typical pattern, he is closing strong and surprising the pundits. We believe this race is winnable, and if the trajectory continues, we will surpass the 270 Electoral votes needed on Election Night.
  • National Polls: Major polls last week showed John McCain trailing by double-digit margins - but by the middle of this week, we were within the margin of error on four national tracking surveys. In fact, the Gallup national tracking survey showed the race in a virtual tie 2 days this week.

  • State Polls:

Iowa - Our numbers in Iowa have seen a tremendous surge in the past 10 days. We took Obama's lead from the double digits to a very close race. That is why you see Barack Obama visiting the state in the final days, trying to stem his losses. It is too little, too late. Like many other Midwestern states, Iowa is moving swiftly into McCain's column.

The Southwest - It is no secret that Republican candidates in the Southwest have to focus on winning over enough Latino and Hispanic voters in Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado to carry them to victory. John McCain has overcome challenges Republicans face, and has made up tremendous ground in these states with these voters. For these voters, the choice has become clear, and you have seen a big change in the numbers. John McCain is now winning enough voters to perform within the margin of error - putting these states within reach.

Colorado - Barack Obama tried to outspend our campaign in Colorado during the early weeks of October and finish off our candidate in Colorado. However, after our visit early this week, we saw a tremendous rebound in our poll position, and Colorado is back on the map.

Ohio and Pennsylvania - Everyone knows that vote rich Ohio and Pennsylvania will be key battlegrounds for this election. Between the two: 41 electoral votes and no candidate has gotten to the White House without Ohio. Senator McCain and Governor Palin have been campaigning non-stop in these key battleground states and tonight Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has pumped up our campaign at a rally in Columbus. Our position in these states is strong and undecided voters continue to have a very favorable impression of our candidate.
Obama campaign faces tremendous structural challenges in the final days of this campaign

  • Obama has a challenge hitting 50%: Barack Obama has not reached the 50% threshold in almost any the battleground state. He consistently is performing in the 45-48% range. When we look closely at the primary votes, we see a history of a candidate whose Election Day performance is often at or behind his final polling numbers. If this is true, our surge will leave Obama with even or under 50% of the vote on Election Day.

  • Early Vote: The Obama campaign has promised that their early vote and absentee efforts will change the composition of the electorate. They have sold the press on a story that first time voters will turn out in droves this election cycle. Again, the facts undermine their argument. In our analysis of early voting and absentee votes to date: The composition of the electorate has not changed significantly and most folks who have voted early are high propensity voters who would have voted regardless of the high interest in this campaign.

  • Expanding the Field: Obama is running out of states if you follow out a traditional model. Today, he expanded his buy into North Dakota, Georgia and Arizona in an attempt to widen the playing field and find his 270 Electoral Votes. This is a very tall order and trying to expand into new states in the final hours shows he doesn't have the votes to win.
The Final Barnstorm
  • On Monday, we will have a 14 state rally with our candidates crisscrossing the country trying to turn out our voters and sway the final undecided voters. Governor Palin will hit Ohio, Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Nevada and Alaska in the final day of campaigning, while Senator McCain will travel from Tampa, Florida, to Virginia, then Pennsylvania, Indiana, New Mexico, Nevada and finish the night in Prescott, Arizona. The enthusiasm and excitement we generate on Monday will be the electricity that powers our "Get Out the Vote" efforts on Tuesday.
On the Ground
  • Our field organization has tremendous energy and is out-performing the Bush campaign at the same time in 2004. This week our field organization crossed a huge threshold and began reaching more than one million voters per day, and by week's end will have contacted more than 5 million voters. Our phone centers are full and our rate of voter contact is significantly out-pacing the Bush campaign in 2004. We have the resources to do the voter contact necessary to support the surge we are seeing in our polling with old fashioned grassroots outreach.
On the Airwaves
  • In the final days of the campaign, our television presence will be bigger and broader than the Obama campaign's presence. The full Republican effort - the RNC's Independent Expenditure and the McCain campaign will out-buy Barack Obama and the Democrats by just about 10 million dollars.
In short: the McCain campaign is surging in the final 72 hours. Our grassroots campaign is vibrant and communicating to voters in a very powerful way. Our television presence is strong. And, we have a secret ingredient - A candidate who will never quit and who will never stop fighting for you and for your families.

In these final hours, Senator McCain and Governor Palin are counting on you - they are counting on you to knock on doors, to make turnout calls, to contact your friends and neighbors. Get our voters to the polls and help John McCain fight for your and for our country. This is our last mission on behalf of John McCain and I have no doubt I can count on your effort and energy to carry us across the line to victory.

McCain Supporters Speak OUT!

Here's a video we put together of military wives, daughters, mothers, vets, parents, business owners, and regular middle-class Americans who support John McCain and WHY.
